Deep Enders,
Over the last couple of decades, thereโs been a big push to โbuild in publicโ.
Itโs a sexy concept. ๐บ๐ฟ
The equivalent of middle school algebra teachersโ mantra (โshow your workโ), building in public involves creating something - a startup, a piece of art, a sandwich - for the world to see in real time.
Allegedly the benefits include getting instant feedback and adding a layer of accountability.
I like the rationale behind building in public. But you know where I do my best work?
Isolation.
For the past year, Iโve been working on my third book: Microwins: Go Small, Build Momentum, And Tackle the Goals That Actually Matter in Life.
The book hits shelves in the U.S. and Canada on October 8th and you can pre-order your copy here.
This book has a chance to make a bestseller list. I am grateful to the Deep End Familia for your support. ๐๐พ
Die Empty
Where are my Fresh Prince of Bel-Air fans? ๐๐พโโ๏ธ
(I hear thereโs a remake of the show, but I refuse to watch it. Iโm a purist. ๐คฃ)
Anyway, I ran across this 59-second clip of DJ Jazzy Jeff. Give it a listen.
He said a few things that stuck with me:
I've always said: Listen, you will never put out all of the music that you make in your lifetime.
So this is what you need to do: Sell some, give the rest away.
Die empty.
Die empty.
Don't die with shit creatively inside of you.
Die empty.
To die empty means unloading your creations into the worldโฆ
To share without the anticipation of crickets or crowdsโฆ
Die empty.
I love you.
Stay In The Deep End.
I spend my time speaking, writing, reading and thinking (oh and shuttling five kids across Austin, Texas).
This newsletter is a completely reader-supported publication. If you love it and want to support it, the best ways are to buy my books, hire me to speak, or become a paid subscriber. ๐๐พโโ๏ธ
So good! Thank you for writing and sharing, Daron. We pre-ordered your book Microwins. Canโt wait to read it and it to our familyโs DKR collection!
Die Empty? Hmm. Let me think about that!
The concept can only come from solitude found near your Walden Pond. A book Iโve never read that youโve now given me inspiration to read.
Of late โฐ Iโve been writing a lot. I mean a lot!! Without a doubt because you introduced me to what someone told me was my blog. And I understandโฆitโs because Iโm on a path for my voice to be heard. Itโs a plan to die empty. I get it and like it and will credit when I use it!
Thank you as always! Will add the book!
