Over the last couple of decades, there’s been a big push to “build in public”.
It’s a sexy concept. 🕺🏿
The equivalent of middle school algebra teachers’ mantra (“show your work”), building in public involves creating something - a startup, a piece of art, a sandwich - for the world to see in real time.
Allegedly the benefits include getting instant feedback and adding a layer of accountability.
I like the rationale behind building in public. But you know where I do my best work?
Isolation.
For the past year, I’ve been working on my third book: Microwins: Go Small, Build Momentum, And Tackle the Goals That Actually Matter in Life.

Anyway, I ran across this 59-second clip of DJ Jazzy Jeff. Give it a listen.
He said a few things that stuck with me:
I've always said: Listen, you will never put out all of the music that you make in your lifetime.
So this is what you need to do: Sell some, give the rest away.
Die empty.

Don't die with shit creatively inside of you.
Die empty.
To die empty means unloading your creations into the world…
To share without the anticipation of crickets or crowds…
Die empty.

The concept can only come from solitude found near your Walden Pond. A book I’ve never read that you’ve now given me inspiration to read.
Of late ⏰ I’ve been writing a lot. I mean a lot!! Without a doubt because you introduced me to what someone told me was my blog. And I understand…it’s because I’m on a path for my voice to be heard. It’s a plan to die empty. I get it and like it and will credit when I use it!
