SITDE #196: What (and Who) Are On Your "Call Sheet"?
Deep Enders,
First, I’m taking next week off as I will be in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for my writing conference.
I’ll see you back here November 1. 👊🏾
I was wasting my life away Monday night watching the Cowboys and Chargers chase the single-game total penalties record, when this ☝️ shot of head coach Mike McCarthy flashes across my screen.
My reaction:
One of my jobs as a grunt quality control coach, was to print and laminate the “call sheet” for my defensive coordinator two days before a football game.
I’d be sweating bullets as the moody laminating machine sloooooooowly sealed the 8.5 x 11 inch sheets.
What in the Hell is a Call Sheet?
It’s a list of your best offensive or defensive plays, segregated by situation.
Every coach has a call sheet.
Some are small…
Some are big…
Regardless of size, it’s a critical document, a reference point during high-pressure situations.
Here’s a question for you: What’s on your call sheet?
Who are your go-to people?
What books help you find your way?
What songs calm you down?
Who inspires you?
Take inventory of the things that help you get through life.
I love you.
Stay In The Deep End.
I spend my time speaking, writing, reading and thinking (oh and shuttling five kids across Austin, Texas).
